Calling all designers

Lark illustration in teal and yellow.

Who are we?

We’re Lark. Our team of writers and designers help brilliant organisations build their brand, find their voice and tell their story. From our studio in central Brighton, we produce the highest quality creative for many of the world’s best loved charities and socially minded businesses.

Our work includes creating brand identities, planning and running advertising campaigns, producing brand guidelines (tone of voice, messaging and visual), copywriting, design, illustration, and video production.

Who do we work with?

We love working on interesting projects for inspiring organisations. Our clients span charities, educational institutions, arts organisations, among other well-loved brands. They include Guide Dogs, Dementia UK, The Body Shop, Bowel Cancer UK, Beat, Wellbeing of Women, Sport England, Target Ovarian Cancer, and many more.

Who are we looking for?

A brilliant, creative graphic designer who is also a smart, enthusiastic and resourceful all-rounder. This is a mid-weight designer role.

You’ll be…

… a fantastic designer. From client pitches and Lark social posts, to campaign ideation and research, you’ll be working on a whole mix of internal and external projects. We’re looking for a designer with fantastic attention to detail and creative ideas.

… a team player. This will be a new role in Lark land as our Senior Designer needs a trusted in-house colleague. We need you to be a reliable and resourceful creative collaborator – confident in sharing your ideas (good and bad), while working with others to develop theirs.

… agile across platforms. You’ll be working on many deliverables – from social posts and website landing pages to posters and leaflets. We’ll need you to know your pixels from your print – with a knowledge of various channel requirements. Ideally, you’ll also be comfortable producing and editing creative for TikTok and Instagram.

… comfortable in agency life. You’ll know what it’s like to work in an agency, with at least three years’ agency experience. You’ll need to follow each and every detail of a brief, and question where necessary. Feedback’s a big part of what we do too – we’ll need you to listen to clients’ notes and take them on (even when it hurts). Plus, we need you to work independently and manage your own workload and time – hopping between multiple projects at any moment.

… a mucker-in. We’ve all got our strengths. But we’re a small team, so we can’t always stick scrupulously to job descriptions. We all chip in at times and may have a few plates on the spin on any given day. It’s more interesting that way.

Finally, although we value skill and experience, being a good fit is just as important. In our book, a spark, and a willingness to learn and adapt, go a very long way.

Essential skills

  • At least three years’ agency experience

  • Confident using Adobe creative suite: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and a working knowledge of Canva

  • Experienced in graphic design – from concept to asset creation

  • Ability to follow brand guidelines and implement them consistently

  • Ability to create and replicate simple illustration styles

Nice to have

  • Animation and video editing skills

  • Interest in and understanding of social media

  • Knowledge of creating accessible documents

  • A love of art and design industry news, and be aware of the latest trends

Who are we not looking for?

We will be supporting you, but this isn’t a junior role. So we’re only inviting designers to apply if you already have experience working in a fast-paced agency role, and can hit the ground running.

Lark life

You’ll be working in the Lark studio right in the heart of Brighton. We’re pretty much back to office life: all in the studio from Monday to Thursday, and working from home on Fridays. We find you can’t beat a good old-fashioned F2F chat when you’re working together on creative ideation and problem-solving. And although you can work from home on additional days if really needed, we try to be in for most of the week.

Our hours are 9am-5.30pm, but it’s flexible. You can start and finish earlier if that’s how you work.

Why should you join us?

Lark is a small agency that punches above its weight. As there aren't too many of us, that means you’ll have a real part to play in where the agency goes and the clients we take on. You’ll be working with smart, creative people who will make you better at what you do.

We always want to be proud of our work – and that's why we don't accept every project that comes along. For you, this means we always have an interesting and inspiring mix of clients and projects rolling at any one time – and you'll get to work across a wide range of content areas.

Oh and our co-founder, Paul, has (literally) written the book on how to run an ethical business. So that’s nice.

Salary

We’re offering £28,000-£35,000 for this role, depending on your experience. We actively welcome applicants from people of all backgrounds, regardless of race, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation or age.

Ready to apply?

Please drop us your CV and portfolio, an indication of salary expectations, and a short cover email explaining why you think you’re the one for us to: hello@larkagency.com

Applications close 31st December
