Editorial consultancy for the Ivor Novello Awards and BASCA

How can you help an arts organisation to carry its creativity through to all communications?

Who: The British Association of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) is an organisation that supports, protects and celebrates music writers. It's also the home to some of the world's most respected music awards: the Gold Badge Awards, the British Composer Awards and the Ivor Novello Awards. Lark is proud to have worked as an editorial consultant for BASCA for over 5 years continuously.

What they wanted:

The brief was to relaunch – and improve – the gala magazine for the Ivor Novello Awards, one of the world's most prestigious music awards.

For previous award magazines, important information (such as the schedule and judging panel,) had been hard to find, and many of the interviews with nominees felt lost in the magazine.

What we did:

Lark helped create a radical new editorial structure for the Ivors magazine – focusing on a clearer reader journey through the publication.

We devised a new editorial plan, divided the content into intuitive sections and conducted a series of interviews with nominated artists. The Ivors has continued to use this structure for following editions and has asked Lark to provide further writing and editorial support for the subsequent awards.

basca members' magazine: The works

What they wanted: Back in 2012, BASCA asked Lark to help relaunch their quarterly members' magazine, The Works. This involved us liaising with and briefing a design team, creating a new editorial strategy for the publication, commissioning and writing articles, and taking the publication through to print.

Fast forward a few years and BASCA has asked Lark to come back as editorial consultants for each new issue of the magazine.

What we did: Working in partnership with the BASCA marketing team, Lark plays a vital role in project management, liaising with the design team, editorial strategy, copywriting, editing and proofing. We help to ensure every issue is newsstand quality – with engaging features and informative articles – and is delivered on time to all BASCA members.

The Works magazine is such an important publication for BASCA members. I’m incredibly proud of it and couldn’t do it without Lark. It’s their enthusiasm, dedication, professionalism and meticulous attention to detail that make them a joy to work with and make producing this magazine the most enjoyable part of my job.
